Bush NSA: If Biden cancels Iraq war AUMF, he better replace him
But Stephen Hadley, the man who has been the architect of many of the national security policies the Iraqi AUMF has made possible, has something to say ahead of Congressional votes. Hadley served as President George W. Bush’s national security adviser from 2005 to 2009 and was Dick Cheney’s man at the negotiating table with Russia during the George HW Bush administration. Today he just published a book called Hand-Off: George W. Bush’s Foreign Policy Handed Down to Barack Obama which chronicles 20 years of war and politics in America.
On this week’s episode of Playbook Deep Dive, Playbook co-author Ryan Lizza talks to the former Bush adviser about what we stand to lose if Congress neglects to repeal the war in Iraq. AUMF, on what Bush has done right and wrong about China, how Joe Biden politics resonates with Bush’s freedom agenda, and how President Biden can learn from Bush’s successes and failures over Vladimir Putin.
